Message from the Director

In over thirty years of work with children and families, I have witnessed the remarkable changes people are capable of making and have seen examples where people have truly turned their lives around.  These changes come about in different ways.  Foster and adoptive parents play a key role in offering children stability and hope.  We are all aware that providing a safe and secure home environment is exceedingly important for all children.  We also know that being a good listener who can remain non-judgmental helps people of all ages recover from emotional pain.  Calm and kind responses to difficult behavior convinces children they are cared for, that even during difficult times they are worthy of love and respect.  Firm and consistent discipline help children learn self-control and regulation of unpleasant feelings.

A very powerful influence can come from a grandparent or relative who has seen many seasons of life and knows first hand that unhappiness can pass.  These kind people can further help children make peace with those who have hurt them.  Inner Circle Foster Care and Adoption Services value all human connections and recognize we all play a part in one another’s lives.  This summer we will celebrate the accomplishments of foster and adoption families with a picnic and day of appreciation in the park on August 6, 2010.  With a number of planned activities, families can enjoy food from “In N Out Burgers”, prizes, games, and raffle gifts.  Inner Circle will thank those who have committed themselves to helping children grow and live productive lives.  You can help our staff recognize these unsung heroes and be among our “Circle of Friends.” Please send a check or gift to our agency.  Or better yet, call us at (818) 988-6300 to learn how you can become a foster or adoptive parent.

Pleasant summer wishes,

Pamela G. Jordan, MSW, LCSW, MSLM
